Unravelling the promoting effect of the ultrathin TaC/RGO nanosheet hybrid for enhanced catalytic activity of Pd nanoparticles

英文摘要A novel two-dimensional ultrathin TaC/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanosheet hybrid was employed as a co-catalyst to Pd nanoparticles (Pd/TaC-G). Compared to Pd/C, Pd/TaC-G exhibits remarkably enhanced catalytic activity, resistance to poisonous intermediates and durability for methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs). Experimental results from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) reveal the synergetic chemical coupling between the Pd nanoparticles and the TaC/RGO nanosheet hybrid, which is likely the reason for the enhanced catalytic activity of Pd/TaC-G. This work established a new strategy to overcome the drawbacks of the noble metal catalyst through improving the catalytic activity, resistance to poisonous intermediates and durability via a two-dimensional hybrid, providing a new approach to develop the next generation catalysts in DMFCs.
